Nutrients that is essential for hair health

Eating healthy food not only improves and maintains your health but also helps you to prevent hair loss.  A balanced diet rich in nutrients may help you to slow down your hair loss and provide much needed nutrients that your hair need.  Here are some guidelines to help you.

Look for foods that are rich in iron.  After reviewing 40 years of research on hair loss, the Cleveland Clinic states that iron may be the most important nutrient to restore hair growth.  Iron content in your body is measured by the amount of ferritin in your blood.  Foods that are rich in iron include liver, meat, fish, leafy greens, cereal fortified with iron, and beans.

A protein rich diet is also essential for hair health.  A type of protein known as keratin is essential for hair growth and health.  Good sources of protein includes seafood, poultry, milk and milk products such as cheese and yogurt, eggs, beans, tofu, whole wheat bread, peanut butter and lentils.

Omega 3 fatty acids are known for preventing dry as well as brittle hair.  Good source includes sea foods such as tuna, salmon, mackerel; walnut and flaxseeds.

Vitamin C, biotin and zinc are other essential nutrients for healthy hair.
