Can hair color cause hair loss?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) say yes.  According to the Nemours Foundation, this could be a temporary hair loss.  This is not the same pattern hair loss.  In addition to hair loss, hair dye can cause redness, burning, itchy or raw skin, face swelling and difficulty in breathing.

The best way to apply hair dye is to seek help from a hair professional.  If you don’t agree with me, please follow the directions that come with your hair dye.  If it calls for a test patch, do a test patch according to instructions.  This will prevent you from getting an allergic reaction to your hair color.  When you apply hair color do not leave the color to dye or bleach on your hair more than the recommended time period.

Follow other good practices to avoid going bald.  Practice a well-balanced nutritional diet and make sure that you are not deficient in any nutrient.  Use a comb not a brush on wet hair.  Use a moisturizer to hydrate your hair.  If you are using a hair dryer or curling iron, make sure to use a heat protectant product.  Seek immediate help if you see bald spots or experience excessive hair loss.
